More than 50,000 St. George ribbons will be distributed to Nizhny Novgorod residents by Victory volunteers in honor of Victory Day.

      On April 22, in the Nizhny Novgorod region, as well as across the country, the All-Russian action "Georgievskaya Lenta" was launched, which will last until May 9. Activists from the regional branch of the All-Russian public movement "Volunteers of Victory" will distribute more than 50,000 Georgiev ribbons to the residents of the region and will also explain the rules for wearing the ribbon on clothing. "The Georgiev ribbon is a living memory of the incredible courage and self-sacrifice of millions of our compatriots who fought for our country. It is a reminder that we must preserve the memory of the feats of our ancestors so that we never forget the price of Victory. It is a symbol of the military glory of Russia that we must preserve for future generations," said the head of the Nizhny Novgorod regional branch of the All-Russian public movement, Maria Samodelkina.

      The action will cover all municipal districts of the region, including educational institutions, cultural and social organizations, lively parks, and public spaces – a total of 78 locations. The central distribution point for Georgiev ribbons in Nizhny Novgorod has traditionally been Theater Square and Bolshaya Pokrovskaya Street.

      This year, the Nizhny Novgorod cable car joined the action. Volunteers and staff will also distribute Georgiev ribbons to passengers and guests on the eve of May 9. Additionally, in the lead-up to Victory Day, volunteers will conduct "lessons of memory" for schoolchildren, where they will talk about the significance of the Georgiev ribbon, its history, and its role in modern society. Within the framework of the action, educational events, patriotic flash mobs, and meetings with participants of the special military operation will be organized.
