Nizhny Novgorod youth increased their online class time sixfold.
Users under 25 years old from the Nizhny Novgorod region have switched to regular distance education. Yota specialists analyzed internet traffic and found that over the year, educational platforms saw a 72% increase among the young audience. Moreover, short informative sessions among teenagers have been replaced by full-fledged lessons. For the age group of 14 to 25 years, the average duration of a single study session has increased more than six times. Just last March, young users spent 13 minutes obtaining information, whereas now a typical session lasts an average of 1 hour and 24 minutes. In this regard, this age category surpasses all other groups. The main interest of the youth in the region is focused on mastering the school curriculum and preparing for graduation exams: the share of such services in the overall traffic of users under 25 years old reaches 85%. The most in-demand platforms are "YClass," "Foxford," "Uchi.ru," the Russian Electronic School, "Umskul," and "Tetrix." The peak of the desire for knowledge occurs in the autumn months (September to November) and the spring period (March to April).
At the same time, representatives of the older generation more often prefer courses in IT, analytics, marketing, and management skills development. This immediately affects the dynamics of specialized resources. For example, platforms like Skillbox and "Yandex Practicum," which offer courses in various fields, saw traffic among audiences aged 36 and older increase two to three times compared to winter values, while visitors aged 26 to 35 experienced a three to four times increase.
Lectures from higher education institutions are also in high demand among Nizhny Novgorod residents. In particular, the open lecture hall of Moscow State University and the "Open Education" project, which features courses from leading universities in the country, saw traffic volumes increase two to three times in March compared to the beginning of the year. The main audience of these resources is also represented by people aged 26 and older.
Citizens over 56 years old have also noticeably become more active in acquiring knowledge online. For instance, on websites and platforms that provide opportunities to gain new professions, the traffic growth in March was 30-40%.
The trend of increasing interest in educational online platforms is confirmed by another mobile operator. MegaFon reported that the Nizhny Novgorod region is among the 25 Russian regions with the highest traffic volume on such resources. By analyzing anonymized data from internet platforms, the operator's specialists noted that student activity in March of this year was 8% higher compared to the beginning of the year.
