      A criminal case of negligence (Article 293 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) has been initiated due to the damage to a water pipe as a result of new landslides in the village of Karauolovo in the Kstovo district, reported the press service of the Investigative Committee of Russia. Recently, a segment on this topic aired in the program "By the Way" (16+). It was noted that landslides in the specified settlement began back in 2020, when two uninhabited houses collapsed into a ravine. No measures were taken. In 2021, three more houses, including residential ones, collapsed.

      In the spring of 2026, ground movements intensified, resulting in the water pipe being severed, leaving residents without water. Local residents believe this occurred due to the wear of the water supply system, which was laid back in 1963 and has not been repaired for a long time.

      Chairman of the Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin demanded a report on the progress of the criminal investigation and the measures taken to protect citizens' rights.

      It should be noted that an emergency situation regime has been introduced in the village of Karauolovo due to the landslides.

      The city administration commented on the situation with the landslides. They stated that specialists assessed the technical condition of the ravine into which the soil had slipped, and then carried out work to straighten and clear the streambed in the ravine's thalweg. Caps were placed on the abandoned gas pipelines. Additionally, utility workers relaid 200 meters of water pipe to prevent water supply disruptions.

      Also, NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" reported that residents whose homes fell into the landslide zone were offered to relocate to temporary housing in 2025-2026, but they declined. The issue of expropriation and compensation payments to the owners of five houses that fell into the emergency zone is currently being worked on.
