Yuri Stankevich: "Distancing from other people's problems is not my story"

April 13, 2026 11:52 Politics State Duma Deputy Yuri Stankevich has submitted documents to participate in the preliminary voting of the "United Russia" party for single-mandate district No. 131. The primaries will take place from May 25 to May 31. The winners will represent the party in the State Duma elections.

Stankevich is a hereditary military man, a career officer, a federal politician, and a father of many children. He has been working in the State Duma for five years.

In an interview with pravda-nn.ru, the deputy spoke not only about his work but also about his family, which is his main support.

"Almost half of my life, the last two decades, is inextricably linked to Nizhny Novgorod land. I love our city, the people, the architecture, the deep historical heritage. I often visit rural areas and never tire of admiring the responsiveness and spirit of the Nizhny Novgorod people, the beauty of nature, and the potential that our land possesses," noted Stankevich.

He has seven children. His eldest son Vladimir graduated from a military school, continuing the officer dynasty, speaks several foreign languages, and already has his own family and a small son. His middle son Vladislav is a certified pilot and is serving in the Armed Forces. His youngest son Vyacheslav is finishing school this year and preparing for the Unified State Exam. His four daughters — Arina, Bozhena, Veronika, and Agata — are schoolchildren and preschoolers.

During his time in the State Duma, Yuri Stankevich has co-authored more than 60 bills aimed at strengthening the institution of family, statehood, and improving the quality of life for citizens.

The parliamentarian noted that he was prepared for legislative work; however, the constant emotional burden has become a serious test.

"Sometimes you hear outside advice: 'Take care of yourself, you'll burn out trying to figure everything out, get into the details.' But emotional detachment, distancing from other people's problems — that's not my story. If a person comes to you with a problem, facing injustice, deaf bureaucracy, how can you sit idly by and not try to help? If not us – federal-level deputies, if not me, then who?" he concluded.
