A former official from Zavolzhye received a suspended sentence for contract fraud.

      On April 9, 2026, at 12:13, Incidents: A verdict has been issued in the Nizhny Novgorod region against the former deputy head of the Zavolzhye administration. He was found guilty of abusing his official powers, according to the press service of the regional FSB.

      As established by the investigation and the court, in 2023, the territorial administration of Zavolzhye entered into a municipal contract with a contractor for the improvement of the "Victory" square. The cost of the work amounted to 14.1 million rubles.

      According to law enforcement, the official acted out of selfish motives. He knew that part of the work was not actually completed, and instead of the materials specified in the project, cheaper ones were used. Despite this, he signed the acceptance acts for the completed work. As a result, the municipality suffered damage amounting to more than 2 million rubles.

      A criminal case under paragraph "e" part 3 of article 286 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation was initiated and investigated by the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod region.

      The court sentenced the former official to two years of conditional imprisonment. He is also prohibited from holding certain positions for a period of one year.

      Recall that at the end of March, the contractor for the improvement of the "Victory" square in Zavolzhye, as well as the public space in Chkalovsk, was sentenced to three years in prison.
