150 km of federal highways will be repaired in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

      On April 9, 2026, at 10:58, Society In Nizhny Novgorod, a working meeting took place between the head of the Federal Road Agency Roman Novikov and the governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region Gleb Nikitin. The parties discussed the start of the road construction season, as well as the development of the federal, regional, and local road network within the framework of the national project "Infrastructure for Life." Roman Novikov noted that the region plays an important role in ensuring interregional freight flows due to its developed industry and dense transport network. In this context, the modernization of road infrastructure is seen as a key factor for sustainable socio-economic development and improving the quality of life. According to him, as a result of diagnostics, 78% of federal roads in the region are in standard condition. Also, over the past year, the number of traffic accidents on federal highways decreased by 22%, the number of injured by 15.8%, and fatalities by 16.5%. "This statistics reflects our systematic work to improve the quality and safety of roads," emphasized the head of Rosavtodor. He added that from 2026 to 2028, it is planned to repair 12 sections of federal highways with a total length of 150 kilometers, of which 31 kilometers will be completely renovated with an expansion to four lanes. According to him, this will increase the capacity of key routes and improve the condition of the roads. The total length of the federal road network in the Nizhny Novgorod region is 578 km, including 220 km of the M-7 "Volga" highway, 224.5 km of the R-158 Nizhny Novgorod — Saratov road, and 133.2 km of the R-177 "Povetluzhye" road. Gleb Nikitin thanked Rosavtodor for supporting the region and noted that people — their safety and comfort — remain at the center of all decisions. "The development of the road network directly affects the mobility of residents, the accessibility of jobs, and social facilities," he emphasized. Special attention at the meeting was given to regional and local roads. According to the governor, over the past seven years, about 6.6 thousand km of such roads have been repaired in the region — an average of almost a thousand kilometers annually. In 2025, 761 km were brought to standard condition, exceeding the plan by 135 km. In 2026, it is planned to put in order 180 objects of the regional and local road network with a total length of more than 600 km. The participants of the meeting confirmed their readiness to continue joint work on the development of the region's road infrastructure and improving the quality of life for the population.
