Two men will be tried for the death of a 19-year-old girl in Varvarka.

      April 3, 2026 16:23 Incidents The case of the death of a 19-year-old girl after ice fell on Varvarskaya Street in Nizhny Novgorod has been transferred to court. The incident occurred on the evening of February 14. Two girls were standing next to an apartment building when ice suddenly fell from the roof. The video shows that they tried to run away but did not make it in time – the ice block fell on one of them. The girl died, and her friend sustained minor injuries. A criminal case has been initiated regarding the provision of services that do not meet safety requirements for the life and health of consumers, resulting in the negligent death of a person. The investigation established that the tragedy occurred due to the improper performance of duties by two responsible individuals. Contracts for the provision of services were concluded with them by the chairman of the homeowners' association. According to the Nizhny Novgorod region prosecutor's office, this involves a self-employed man who was supposed to clear the roof of the house from ice, as well as a representative of the homeowners' association who did not monitor the execution of this work and did not conduct daily inspections of the roof. Investigators have gathered sufficient evidence. The criminal case with an approved indictment has been sent to court. Earlier, the chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Alexander Bastrykin, requested a report on this criminal case. It is also worth noting that an employee of the Housing and Utilities Department was given 200 hours of community service for an incident involving a child in Avtozavod, who was struck by falling ice.
