What comedies and books do Nizhny Novgorod residents choose?

March 31, 2026 17:50 Society In anticipation of the unofficial April Fool's Day, the ON Media holding, part of the MTS group, analyzed which comedy films were watched and which humorous works were read by the residents of the Nizhny Novgorod region in the first quarter of 2026 on the online cinema KION and the KION Strony e-book service. According to the analysis, the top five most popular comedies among Nizhny Novgorod residents included only Russian projects. The leader was the film "Vine" (16+) starring Pavel Priluchny — a story about how losing everything becomes a starting point for a new stage in life. The second place was taken by the series "Kidney" (18+) with Lyubov Aksyonova, combining black humor, social satire, and psychological drama. The third position was occupied by the film "Dad 2. Grandfather" (18+) — a continuation of the well-known story featuring Vladimir Vdovichenkov and Yevgeny Tsyganov. In fourth place was the series "Actor" (18+) with Dmitry Nagiyev and Anton Lapenko, dedicated to the price of popularity and the complicated relationship between an actor and a critic. Closing the ranking is the family comedy "To the Village of Grandfather" (6+) with Yuri Stoyanov about the mutual understanding between a city schoolboy and his village grandfather. The Nizhny Novgorod region also ranked 16th among Russian regions in terms of humorous prose consumption. In the e-book segment, residents of the region showed interest in both classics and contemporary authors. The most in-demand book was the dystopian novel "Moscow 2042" (18+) by Arthur Khant. Following it are Anton Chekhov's short story "Complaint Book" (12+) and "The House Spirit's Diary" (12+) by Yevgeny CheshirKo. Also popular were "Humorous Stories" (18+) by Gennady Meshcheryakov and the collection "Best Stories" (6+) featuring works by Kir Bulychev, Valentina Oseeva, Anatoly Alexin, Yevgeny Permyak, and other authors. "Nizhny Novgorod residents appreciate quality domestic humor — both in cinema and literature. Viewers choose different formats: from light family stories to projects with social satire and deep meaning. The interest in books is also diverse — from modern sharp prose to Chekhov's classics. This indicates a desire not only for entertainment but also for reflection," noted MTS director in the Nizhny Novgorod region Andrey Belov. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has a Telegram channel.
