The situation was reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation. The agency stated that this public service has always been one of the most in demand, especially during the pre-vacation season, from March to September. Furthermore, this year changes were made to the rules for crossing the state border by children under 14 years old: starting January 20, they cannot enter a number of countries with just a birth certificate. Now they need an international passport or a note in the parent's international passport. As a result, the number of documents issued to children for 5 years increased by 70% over the year, and for 10 years — by 40%. The situation with passport issuance has also been affected by technical difficulties in the multifunctional centers, which has forced Russians to apply directly to migration departments in person or through "Gosuslugi." This has led to queues in large cities.

      Claims that the situation is due to a growing interest among the country's residents in emigration are unfounded and do not reflect reality, the Ministry of Internal Affairs emphasized.
