A low cancer mortality rate has been recorded in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

      On March 27, 2026, at 10:08, the Society of the Research Institute of Clinical Oncology summarized its work for 2025. Despite an increase in hospitalizations to 55,000, the institution achieved a historic minimum in hospital mortality — only 0.08%. This was reported by medical expert Alexey Nikонов on his Telegram channel "Bokal presseka."

      Experts attribute this result to the transition to personalized medicine principles, as well as the active implementation of digital technologies in diagnostic and treatment processes.

      As reported by the director of the Research Institute of Clinical Oncology, Sergey Gamayunov, over 16,000 telemedicine consultations in the "doctor-to-doctor" format were conducted in a year. This allowed for the prompt confirmation of complex diagnoses in the regions of the area while not overloading the hospital with patients who only required therapy adjustments.

      "The opening of the personalized medicine center has allowed for targeted therapy selection based on tumor DNA analysis, and the development of cardio-oncology has minimized risks to the cardiovascular system during aggressive chemotherapy," noted Sergey Gamayunov.

      Additionally, there are 19,000 cases of oncological diseases under dispensary observation. The institution has formed a "seamless" patient management cycle, ensuring continuity of medical care.

      It was previously reported that Sergey Gamayunov was appointed the chief physician of the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Clinical Hospital named after Semashko. He will continue to lead the oncology center. Both institutions are included in the "City of Health" project (implemented under the national projects "Long and Active Life" and "Family").

      Currently, an online conference with Sergey Gamayunov is taking place at the NIA "Nizhny Novgorod," during which the specialist answers questions about early diagnosis of oncological diseases, modern treatment options for oncological diseases, cancer prevention, necessary examinations, and alarming symptoms.
