Nizhny Novgorod residents were reminded which diseases are treated for free and which are not.

      Experts explained to the residents of the region what medical services can be expected under the compulsory health insurance policy (OMS) and what will need to be paid for out of pocket. Residents of the Nizhny Novgorod region can receive a wide range of medical assistance for free — from a therapist's consultation to complex surgeries. However, as insurers remind, there is a list of diseases and services that are not covered by the compulsory health insurance policy. By law, the basic OMS package includes preventive examinations and dispensary observation, laboratory tests, vaccinations, inpatient treatment, as well as monitoring of pregnant women and childbirth for residents of Nizhny Novgorod. In addition, the policy provides some types of dental services and subsidized medications. Nevertheless, there are categories of assistance that are not funded by the OMS system. As explained by the Federal Fund, the policy does not cover treatment for HIV, tuberculosis, sexually transmitted diseases, as well as psychiatric and palliative care. This list also includes air ambulance services — a service that can become critically important for remote areas of the Nizhny Novgorod region, but is paid for separately. In certain cases, if it concerns seriously ill patients and there are serious indications, regional authorities may cover the expenses. However, as specialists emphasize, such decisions are made on an individual basis and are not automatically guaranteed. Residents of Nizhny Novgorod are advised to clarify the current list of free services in advance on the website of the Territorial Fund of OMS for the region. Plans for 2025 include expanding the state guarantee program: the introduction of telemedicine, remote monitoring of patients with chronic illnesses, and increased support for people with orphan (rare) diseases is expected. The creation of a unified digital registry of patients is also being discussed.
