      In Dzerzhinsk, a 41-year-old man was sentenced for attempting to kill his cohabitant by dousing her with flammable liquid and setting her on fire, reported the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod Region. The incident occurred on April 14, 2025. That evening, police lieutenant Olga Yefimova saved the life of a 36-year-old woman and organized the evacuation of residents from an apartment building. According to the police officer, a neighbor knocked on her door and reported a loud bang resembling an explosion. The man from the apartment where the sound came from insisted that everything was fine. However, Yefimova smelled smoke and decided to check the premises. Inside, there was thick smoke. In the bathroom, there was a woman calling for help. The policewoman called the duty station and an ambulance, warned the neighbors about the evacuation, and then returned to the victim, providing first aid until medical personnel arrived. The victim was hospitalized. Doctors diagnosed burns covering 60% of her body, classified as serious harm to health. It was established that during a joint drinking session, a quarrel broke out between the cohabitants. The man doused the woman with flammable liquid and set her on fire, after which there was a bang, and her clothes and skin caught fire. The suspect was detained at the scene. He did not deny his guilt. As a result, the court sentenced him to eight years in a strict regime colony. It was previously reported that the court had toughened the punishment for a Nizhny Novgorod resident for attacking a medical worker.
