Health services of the Nizhny Novgorod region provided round-the-clock medical care during the New Year holidays — from December 31, 2025 to January 11, 2026. Throughout this period, the region's emergency and urgent care services operated in an enhanced mode.

The ambulance service carried out nearly 29,000 call-outs over the holidays. Peak demand occurred on January 1, 2, 3 and 5, when the number of calls from citizens was especially high.

According to the regional Ministry of Health, about 220 ambulance teams were on duty daily across the region. Their work was coordinated by the Nizhny Novgorod Territorial Center for Disaster Medicine.

Emergency consultative medical care specialists also worked in an enhanced mode. Doctors from the N.A. Semashko Nizhny Novgorod Regional Clinical Hospital and the children's advisory and diagnostic center at the regional children's clinical hospital conducted dozens of in-person and remote consultations.

Telemedicine sessions were also organized with federal and regional clinics, as well as field surgeries and the evacuation of critically ill patients to specialized medical institutions.

In addition, thousands of medical workers ensured the uninterrupted operation of hospitals, polyclinics and other outpatient units. They continued to provide care to the region's residents even during the holidays.

"Nizhny Novgorod medics have once again demonstrated their dedication to the profession. Their selfless work during these days deserves the highest praise and the deepest respect. Thank you to everyone who fulfilled their duty," emphasized Galina Mikhaylova, Minister of Health of the Nizhny Novgorod region.

The ministry reminded that winter holidays are traditionally accompanied by an increased number of medical calls. The causes are falls on icy streets, hypothermia and injuries from pyrotechnics.

Thus, during the New Year holidays, 16 people were injured as a result of improper handling of fireworks, nine of them children. Seven of the injured were hospitalized.

Medics urge Nizhny Novgorod residents to observe precautions even after the holidays. A responsible approach to one's health and preventive measures are the key to feeling well and living a long life.

Earlier it was reported that about 43,000 Nizhny Novgorod residents underwent examinations on the "Health Trains" in 2025.
