January 13, 2026 11:54 Society — The Nizhny Novgorod Ministry of Forestry reminded residents of the region how to properly dispose of their New Year's tree after the holidays. The agency emphasized that throwing the tree into a regular trash container is prohibited. Instead, the tree can be handed in for disposal as part of a special campaign (0+), organized by the Ministry of Forestry. If the tree was purchased at one of the region's forestry stations and the buyer still has the sales contract, it can be presented at any district forestry office — regardless of where it was bought. This will allow the tree to be handed in without unnecessary formalities. Collection points operate in all districts of the Nizhny Novgorod region. You can find the nearest address and contact phone number on the ministry's official website. The collected trees will be disposed of in two ways. Some will be sent for burning in boiler plants and at forest fire stations, with all environmental standards strictly observed. The remaining trees will be processed into wood chips, which will then be used to produce mulch, compost, and other types of recycled raw materials. The campaign to collect New Year's trees will run until January 30. Earlier it was reported that residents of Nizhny Novgorod were asked to support the best New Year's trees from Arzamas, Balakhna, Semyonov, Perevoz, Chkalovsk, and Sechenov.
