More than 7,700 residents of the Nizhny Novgorod region took the opportunity to undergo medical check-ups and preventive examinations during the New Year holidays, the regional Ministry of Health reported.
During the holidays, preventive medicine offices in polyclinics were open. This allowed patients to see doctors without long waits and in a comfortable environment. Many came for examinations with relatives — whole families.
The chief physician of the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Center for Public Health and Medical Prevention, Natalya Savitskaya, noted the importance of the first stage of the medical screening that was carried out during these days. In her words, it is the most effective screening method, allowing potential diseases or risk factors to be detected at an early stage.
"I thank everyone who, despite the festive mood, found time to take care of their health — and the health of their loved ones. Special gratitude to those who brought elderly family members for the examination," emphasized Natalya Savitskaya.
According to doctors, the most commonly detected conditions during such examinations are cardiovascular diseases, diabetes mellitus, as well as respiratory and digestive system pathologies.
The preventive measures are carried out as part of the national project "Longer and Active Life." It is aimed at increasing the life expectancy of Russians and covers a wide range of areas — from the modernization of medical facilities to the introduction of modern methods of diagnosis and treatment of chronic diseases.
Under current rules, citizens over 18 can undergo a preventive medical examination annually. Medical screening is conducted once every three years for people aged 18 to 39 and annually for those over 40. Additional reproductive health examinations are also provided for men and women aged 18 to 49.
Preventive procedures can be carried out at the polyclinic where a person is registered — in preventive medicine departments and offices. In addition, applications can be submitted through the Gosuslugi portal.
The national project "Longer and Active Life" has been implemented in Russia since 2025 by order of President Vladimir Putin. It includes 11 federal directions, among them — combating oncological and cardiovascular diseases, development of medical rehabilitation, improvement of emergency care, digitization of healthcare, as well as strengthening the sector's personnel capacity.
Earlier it was reported that the first night-time medical screening was organized and conducted in Nizhny Novgorod.
