126 people have been injured in road traffic accidents in the Nizhny Novgorod region since the beginning of the year.

      From January 1 to 11, 2026, 75 traffic accidents with casualties occurred in the Nizhny Novgorod region, the regional State Traffic Inspectorate reported.

      As a result of these accidents, three people died and another 126 sustained injuries of varying severity. Among the injured were 20 minors under the age of 16.

      Eighty-nine percent of the accidents were caused by drivers who violated traffic rules.

      The most frequent causes were speeding or driving at a speed inappropriate for road conditions — 33 such cases were recorded. Another 22 accidents occurred due to driving into the oncoming lane, and in five cases drivers failed to yield to pedestrians at crossings.

      In addition, during the first 11 days of January traffic police inspectors removed 300 drunk drivers from driving. Of these, 36 were caught driving under the influence again.

      There were also 162 cases where people without driver's licenses got behind the wheel.

      Earlier it was reported that the person responsible for a multi-vehicle accident in Diveyevsky District of the Nizhny Novgorod region that injured two people is being sought.
