      The Head of the Directorate of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for Nizhny Novgorod, Police Colonel Oleg Vyacheslavovich Sokolov, fulfilled the dream of a young Nizhny Novgorod resident, Ilya — a participant in the regional "Tree of Wishes" campaign.

      The 13-year-old boy wished to be a police officer for one day and to see how they work.

      The head of the city police department personally came to congratulate the teenager on the New Year and accompanied him into a State Traffic Safety Inspectorate patrol car, which set off to make the wish come true.

      The child was told about the service of the GIBDD inspectors by Deputy Platoon Commander of the Traffic Police Unit, Senior Lieutenant of Police Vladislav Murashko. On the way to Police Department No. 6 of the Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for Nizhny Novgorod, the boy asked the police officer about the finer points of the job and shared that he plays a traffic police simulator on his smartphone.

      Upon arrival at the unit, Ilya was shown the work of an investigative-operational team from receiving a report to detaining a suspect. According to the scenario, the police received a report of a theft from a car and the young guest went to the scene in an official vehicle. Together with an investigator, forensic experts, a police canine handler and an operational officer, the child questioned the complainant and examined the traces left by the perpetrator.

      Under the guidance of the canine handler, the police dog discovered a glove that was presumably dropped by the thief. Then, together with forensic experts and under the supervision of the Head of the Directorate, Ilya found and seized fingerprints from the car door. The investigative-operational team also recovered a shoe print from the scene and made a plaster cast.

      Back at the police station, the teenager was shown a police expert’s kit and was given casts of his fingerprint and his shoe print.

      Meanwhile, the operatives detained a suspect in the car theft and brought him to the investigator. With the officers leaving to continue their official duties, Ilya attended a tea party at the invitation of the police leadership. In addition to fulfilling his dream of "being a police officer," the child was given a phone, which was an unexpected surprise for him.

      He thanked the Head of the Directorate of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for Nizhny Novgorod and the entire staff of the police department serving the Prioksky district for making his wish come true and for the experience he received.
