The Governor of Nizhny Novgorod Region, Gleb Nikitin, has been named "Environmental Philanthropist of 2025" by EcoGrad magazine. According to TASS, citing the magazine's editor-in-chief Igor Panarin, this honorary title was also awarded to entrepreneur Sergey Galitsky and Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation Maxim Korolkov.
Gleb Nikitin's candidacy was put forward by the chair of the awards committee Elmurod Rasulmukhammedov. The regional head received the title "Environmental Philanthropist of 2025" for developing principles of environmental patronage and fostering "environmental responsibility." Experts also noted his contribution to creating effective management tools. These models help ensure environmental sustainability and the prudent management of natural capital and ecosystem services.
In addition to Nikitin, Sergey Galitsky received the honorary status of philanthropist for his systematic support of environmental and social initiatives and for selflessly using his financial resources to support people during their lifetimes. Maxim Korolkov was also honored for coordinating government efforts and volunteer movements in responding to the heavy fuel oil spill in the Black Sea. By the way, the special title "Environmental Philanthropist" is awarded as part of the "Environmentalist of the Year" prize, which has existed since 2013. According to the founders, the preservation of Russia's natural capital is a key element of the national project "Environmental Well‑being", which was launched in 2025 by presidential directive.
