      A heavy snowfall has hit parts of Nizhny Novgorod and the region. The bad weather will persist throughout January 4, the Ministry of Emergency Situations warned, citing the Upper Volga UGMS.

      Due to the current weather conditions, emergencies such as traffic jams on highways and an increase in road accidents are possible. Airport operations may also be disrupted. Collapses of structures due to increased snow load are not ruled out.

      The Ministry recommends that people keep away from building walls and structures and beware of overhanging snow. It is best not to drive today or tomorrow. If a trip is unavoidable, maintain distance, do not exceed the speed limit, and avoid sudden braking.

      Earlier it was reported that in the first weekend of 2026 residents of Nizhny Novgorod can expect a warm spell and snow mixed with rain.
