      On New Year’s Eve and in the first hours of January in the Nizhny Novgorod region, eight people were injured while using pyrotechnics, writes NewsNN citing the regional Ministry of Health.

      All incidents occurred on December 31 and January 1. According to doctors, the causes of the medical visits were failed launches of fireworks and firecrackers. People suffered burns and other injuries, after which they sought medical help on their own.

      Seven of the injured were examined by medics on site or in emergency departments and sent home. No serious injuries were found — the patients received first aid and were given recommendations for further treatment. One person had to be hospitalized. He is currently under medical supervision in an inpatient facility. The Ministry of Health did not disclose details about the nature of the injuries.

      For comparison, last year in the pre-New Year days — from December 29 to 31 — 11 people were injured by pyrotechnics. More severe consequences were also recorded then: two people died as a result of fires.
