In the first days of January, traffic police (GIBDD) officers in Nizhny Novgorod identified 13 cases of driving vehicles while intoxicated. Of these, seven people were held administratively liable under Part 1 of Article 12.8 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation for driving while intoxicated. The remaining six drivers refused to undergo medical examination, and protocols were drawn up against them under Part 1 of Article 12.26 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation.
During the New Year and Christmas holidays, the road police strengthened control over motorists whose behavior behind the wheel may indicate intoxication. Such raids are carried out with the aim of preventing traffic accidents and reducing the number of accidents on the city's streets.
According to current legislation, driving a vehicle while intoxicated, as well as refusing to undergo medical examination, entails a fine of 45,000 rubles and deprivation of driving privileges for a period of one and a half to two years. Upon a repeat offense, the driver will face criminal liability.
The police appeal to city residents with a request: if you become aware of a person driving while intoxicated, immediately report it by calling "112". Specify the license plate number and, if possible, the vehicle's route — this will help officers respond promptly and prevent a possible traffic accident.
By the way, since the beginning of 2026, traffic accidents caused by drunk drivers have not been recorded in Nizhny Novgorod.
Earlier it was reported that in Dzerzhinsk GAI officers stopped a VAZ without a hood and doors. An intoxicated man was behind the wheel.
