      Well-known sambist Vyacheslav Kochugov underwent a major operation at one of the clinics in Nizhny Novgorod, medical blogger Alexey Nikonov reported on his Telegram channel.

      The athlete suffered a severe knee injury during a competition. As a result, the common peroneal nerve was damaged and found to be compressed by scar tissue. According to the doctors, they had to literally free the nerve from dense adhesions.

      The surgeons simultaneously reconstructed three important knee ligaments — the anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments, as well as the collateral ligament.

      "We managed to preserve the native popliteus tendon. It had been torn, but it reached the attachment point perfectly and has been securely fixed," explained traumatologist Alexey Krupko.

      Following the intervention, the anatomical stability of the joint has been fully restored. After completing his course of rehabilitation, Kochugov plans to return to sport.

      Recall that in the autumn surgeon Krupko operated on two-time Olympic participant, Russian skier Olga Rocheva. And in the spring he "fixed" the knee of a resident of Germany.
