A Nizhny Novgorod doctor explained how to keep skin healthy during the New Year holidays.
02 January 2026 15:51 — Society. The dermatologist of the Nizhny Novgorod branch of the GNCDK of the Russian Ministry of Health, Ilya Makarychev, warned that the New Year holidays can become a serious test for the skin. This was reported by the editor-in-chief of the medical publication "Stacionar-Press", Alexey Nikonov, on his Telegram channel.
According to the specialist, holiday traditions — from feasts to long walks in the frost — can provoke exacerbations of skin diseases, especially in people with chronic dermatological problems.
"Champagne, red wine, hot spices, long walks in the cold and even strong emotions can aggravate rosacea, and falling asleep with makeup on and an excess of fatty and sugary foods can cause an acne relapse," Ilya Makarychev explained.
He added that synthetic New Year character costumes combined with pre-holiday stress can worsen the course of atopic dermatitis and eczema.
The doctor recommends resting more during the holidays, protecting the skin from the cold and using emollients — special products for moisturizing and restoring the skin's protective barrier.
