The demographic profile of cancer patients in Russia has hardly changed over the past decade. This was reported by the director-general of the National Medical Research Center for Radiology and the chief oncologist of the Russian Ministry of Health, Andrey Kaprin, in an interview with TASS.
According to him, the pattern of cancer incidence remains stable: the average age of patients is 65 years, and cancer is more often diagnosed in women — 53.9% of all detected cases.
"If you look at the long-term dynamics, it is noticeable that the demographic profile of the cancer patient remains fairly stable. Over the past ten years the average age of our patients has increased very little — by about a year. This corresponds to the overall demographic trend: life expectancy is increasing, and there are more elderly people," the doctor noted.
The gender distribution has also changed little. Ten years ago women accounted for 54.2% of all cases, men — 45.8%. Now the figures are close: 53.9% and 46.1% respectively. According to Kaprin, this indicates that the overall pattern of cancer incidence is stable, and major changes are due not to a change in the patient profile but to improved detection and the general aging of the population.
Recall that an oncology center is planned to be built in Nizhny Novgorod, which will become part of the large medical cluster "City of Health". The cluster is being formed on the basis of the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Clinical Hospital named after N. A. Semashko as part of the national projects "A Long and Active Life" and "Family".
It was also reported that more than 1 million rubles will be awarded to Nizhny Novgorod doctors for cancer vigilance in 2026.
