The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Alexander Bastrykin, has taken personal control of the investigation into a criminal case related to the quality of the water supply in the village of Selema in the Arzamas district of the Nizhny Novgorod Region. This was reported by the law enforcement agency’s press service.

Residents of the settlement have for a long time drawn attention to serious problems with the water. According to them, for more than 15 years rusty water has been running from the taps, which is unsuitable for drinking and household use. As a result, people have to purchase water at their own expense.

The statement notes that the regional Investigative Committee had previously repeatedly opened criminal cases on this matter, including on Bastrykin’s direct orders. However, these decisions were subsequently overturned by prosecutors.

Now investigators have again initiated a case. Alexander Bastrykin instructed the head of the regional Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee, Ayrat Akhmetshin, to submit a report on the progress of the investigation and the measures taken. The central apparatus of the Investigative Committee is overseeing the execution of the instruction.
