Nizhny Novgorod won't cancel the design code, but may introduce grants.

      Grants may be introduced in Nizhny Novgorod for small businesses that bring their premises into compliance with the approved architectural and artistic concept (design code). City administration head Yuri Shalabaev said this at a meeting with journalists.

      He admitted that he is a supporter of the design code. In his view, if control is relaxed even a little, people immediately put up something incomprehensible.

      "People think they can do whatever they want on their premises, although that is not the case," Shalabaev said.

      The mayor stressed that small businesses sometimes have it tough, but they will definitely not cancel the design code because of that.

      "We will consider grant support in that regard," the mayor promised.

      The mayor also added that in 2026 requirements for complying with the design code will begin to be applied to NTOs.

      Earlier it was reported that central streets in Nizhny Novgorod continue to be brought to a unified style. In particular, the city hall updated the design codes for a number of central streets, including the Upper and Lower Volga embankments, Kozhevennaya Street, Bolshaya Pokrovskaya, Ulyanova and others.
