In Nizhny Novgorod, pre-New Year raids were carried out to identify violations related to the illegal sale of coniferous trees, the press service of the city branch of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (UMVD) reported.
Over the week, police officers identified 43 offenses. Of these, 27 concerned conducting entrepreneurial activity without registration (part 1 of Article 14.1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation), and another 16 involved trading in undesignated places (Article 2.5 of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Code on Administrative Offenses).
During the raids, 330 Christmas trees and products made from them were seized. The amount of damage amounted to 390,000 rubles.
The police reminded that when buying a New Year’s tree, a buyer has the right to demand a confirming document from the seller — a sales receipt, a payment slip, or a cash voucher. These papers can serve as proof of lawful purchase in the event of an inspection. The police urge citizens to be attentive and to purchase coniferous trees only at officially permitted locations.
Reminder: residents of Nizhny Novgorod will be able to hand in their New Year’s trees for recycling from January 12.
