      In Nizhny Novgorod a criminal case is being investigated against a local resident who is accused of terrorist-related crimes. According to the investigation, the man publicly justified terrorism and called for its financing via the internet. According to the investigative department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod region, he is currently in custody.

      According to the regional investigative department, the case is being handled by the second division for the investigation of especially important cases. The defendant is charged under several articles of the Criminal Code — aiding terrorist activity and publicly promoting terrorism.

      According to the investigation, back in 2018 the accused posted a video on his social media page that was accessible to an unrestricted audience. An expert examination showed that this material contained signs of justification of the activities of persons recognized as terrorists, as well as direct calls to finance terrorism. In addition, investigators established that money was collected which, it is alleged, was intended for unlawful purposes.

      The court, having considered the investigation's motion, chose remand in custody as a preventive measure. Investigative actions are currently ongoing. Law enforcement officers are collecting evidence and carrying out additional operational-search measures.
