Three residents of Nizhny Novgorod became victims of phone scammers in one day, losing a total of almost 2.4 million rubles. This was reported by the regional directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Among the victims were two pensioners, aged 67 and 62, living in the Moskovsky and Nizhegorodsky districts, as well as a 27‑year‑old resident of Avtozavodsky District. In all cases the perpetrators used a similar deception scheme.

The women received calls from alleged former colleagues, and the man from a person who introduced himself as a mobile operator employee. Under the pretext that suspicious transactions were occurring on their bank accounts, the fraudsters persuaded the interlocutors to take urgent measures.

Later, fake officials from state agencies contacted the victims and gave detailed instructions on how to cancel the supposedly unauthorized transactions. Following their directions, the Nizhny Novgorod residents themselves transferred large sums to the scammers.

The total damage amounted to 2,395,000 rubles, with part of the funds — about 440,000 rubles — borrowed by the victims from acquaintances.

Criminal cases have been opened in each of the incidents. An investigation is underway.

Earlier it was reported that in Nizhny Novgorod a woman courier saved a pensioner’s money from scammers. And in Dzerzhinsk a pensioner believed fake policemen and handed over 5 million rubles to the fraudsters.
