A migrant was caught with forged documents in the Nizhny Novgorod Region.

      In Lyskov, police detained a foreign national from a neighboring country who was found to have a counterfeit identity document, the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Nizhny Novgorod Region reported.

      During a check it was found that the foreigner’s passport bore a stamp granting permission for temporary residence in Russia. However, when cross-checked with migration databases, no record of such a permit was found. The stamp proved to be fake.

      A criminal case has been opened under Part 1 of Article 327 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation — forgery or use of forged documents. The maximum penalty under this article is up to two years’ imprisonment.

      The offender was expelled from the Russian Federation.

      Earlier it was reported that a resident of Nizhny Novgorod received a suspended sentence for the fictitious registration of 10 migrants.
