      From the New Year the Department of Labor and Employment of the Nizhny Novgorod Region will be transformed into the Ministry of Demography and Human Capital Development. The new agency will deal with issues related to the region’s population: it will monitor birth rates, mortality and migration, study demographic trends and develop solutions to improve the situation. This was reported by the Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Gleb Nikitin. The main goal of the ministry is to create conditions under which residents will want to remain and develop in their region, and incoming specialists will be able to find decent work and settle comfortably. According to the governor, the labor market in the region is stable today, and the unemployment rate is one of the lowest in the country.

      The name of the new agency reflects its key task — the development of human potential: raising the level of education, qualifications and quality of life of Nizhny Novgorod residents. The ministry has a large amount of work ahead that will require interaction with other government bodies.

      The new agency will be headed by Igor Pantyukhin, and its activities will be overseen by Deputy Governor Egor Polyakov. It is specifically emphasized that this is not an expansion of staff, but a reorganization with new functions and a new direction of work.
