The Nizhny Novgorod production pharmacy will open in early 2026.

      At the beginning of 2026, an inter-hospital production pharmacy will start operating in the Nizhny Novgorod Region. This was reported by Pavel Yastrebov, CEO of Nizhny Novgorod Regional Pharmacy, at a press conference on 25 December, NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" correspondent reports.

      According to Yastrebov, the new pharmacy has already been certified to GMP standards and will begin work in late January–early February 2026. Individual medications for both adults and children will be manufactured and packaged there.

      One of the key innovations will be the organization of a blister center. As part of a pilot project, drugs for inpatient treatment will be packaged into individual blister packs. This will eliminate excessive drug purchases, increase therapy safety, and ensure precise course dosing.

      Another technological solution will be the use of compounders — automated devices for dispensing expensive drugs under sterile conditions. This will allow one ampoule to be split among several patients, reducing the risk of dosing errors.

      "Here the particularly important issue concerns children. I think anyone with children has encountered a situation when you need to give a child medication, but there is no pediatric dosage. When you split it in half or into quarters, it's easy to make a dosing mistake. And if we're talking about potent drugs, including analgesics or narcotics, such an error can be critical for a child. The same applies to the nurse's work in the procedure room. She draws up the drug relying only on the syringe graduations — that's the only measuring tool. But from the standpoint of pharmacological standards, this is not entirely correct practice, because errors are possible. A compounder, however, allows you to measure exactly the amount of substance required for a specific patient, with high precision and in sterile conditions," Yastrebov noted.

      The production pharmacy will be housed in the warehouse building at 6 Geologov Street. Engineering and temperature systems that allow round-the-clock control of storage conditions have already been implemented there. The building is equipped with digital monitoring systems, as well as ports with different temperature modes for unloading, including vaccines.

      In the future, automatic conveyors and a unit-picking system are planned to be installed.

      It was previously reported that the Nizhny Novgorod Region will launch immunoglobulin production.
