      Torpedo's futsal players began the Russian Cup quarterfinal series with a defeat to Gazprom-Yugra. The match, which ended 2:3, was closely contested, but luck that evening was on the visitors' side.

      The visitors opened the scoring, but before the end of the first half Ivan Obzhorin managed to convert a penalty. After the break the opponents scored two more goals. The Nizhny Novgorod side did not give up and pulled one back, but they could not turn the tide of the match.

      "I liked the game, it was an end-to-end contest. We constantly play these kinds of games against strong teams, and Gazprom was no exception. We accomplished the main task: we remained in the tie, in the fight, and I am sure everything will be decided in Nizhny Novgorod," said Torpedo head coach Gennady Garagulya.

      The return leg (6+) will take place on December 9 at the Meshchersky Sports and Recreation Center in Nizhny Novgorod. It is in that match that it will be decided who advances to the semifinals of the tournament.
