An off-site meeting was held in Nizhny Novgorod dedicated to the completion of the first phase of the reconstruction of the Nizhny Novgorod Aeration Station. Representatives of the federal ministries of Natural Resources and Ecology, as well as Construction and Housing and Communal Services, attended the meeting. This was reported by the press service of the Nizhny Novgorod mayor’s office.
Together with delegations from 15 regions of Russia, participants studied the station’s layout, the wastewater treatment technology and inspected the facilities built as part of the first stage of work. They also attended the commissioning processes.
Dmitry Sivokhin, General Director of JSC "United Utility Operator," reported that the first phase of the reconstruction is 99.5% complete. He explained that construction and installation work has already been completed and contractors are addressing the deficiencies identified by FBU "RosStroyKontrol" and the customer. According to him, all facilities are filled with technical water, and at the beginning of next week, after final inspections, protocols confirming the readiness of the facility are expected to be signed so that the facilities can then be filled with wastewater.
Participants were shown the key modernized facilities, being guided through the entire technological chain of wastewater treatment. The station’s reconstruction is being carried out without interrupting the reception of wastewater from residents and enterprises of Nizhny Novgorod, Bor and part of the Kstovsky District, so the work is divided into two phases. The first phase, which is now being completed, includes the renovation or construction of 50 facilities.
Honored Ecologist of the Russian Federation Klara Romanova drew attention to the fact that covers have been installed on the inlet channels and an air purification system has been installed. According to her, similar systems have been introduced in the screening building, where fine debris catchers with a diameter of 6 mm are now additionally operating. She emphasized that new grit chambers have been built and the primary settling tanks have been modernized, which have already begun preliminary biological treatment.
Romanova added that the wastewater treatment technology will change partially after the first phase, and will be fully updated upon completion of the second phase, and the first results of the modernization are already noticeable.
Guests were also shown a sample mobile reception point for liquid household waste. Such a point is planned to be put into operation in the Kanavinsky District of the regional center by the end of 2025.
Recall that in August the region’s governor Gleb Nikitin reported to Russian President Vladimir Putin on the preliminary approval of the application for the implementation of the second phase of the NSA reconstruction under the federal project "Water of Russia" of the national project "Environmental Well-Being."
Earlier, JSC "OKO" responded to accusations of polluting the Volga with discharges from the Nizhny Novgorod Aeration Station.
