A resident of Nizhny Novgorod lost 80,000 rubles trying to earn money on a marketplace.
30 November 2025 14:50 Incidents A resident of the Sormovsky district of Nizhny Novgorod became a victim of internet scammers while trying to earn extra income on a marketplace. This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Nizhny Novgorod Region.
A 47-year-old man responded in a messenger to an offer of side work. Unknown individuals claimed he could earn money if he bought goods and then returned them, leaving positive reviews. They promised to refund the money spent and pay interest for such actions.
Following the instructions, the man placed an order and transferred 80,000 rubles via a mobile app. After receiving the money, the "employers" stopped communicating, and the man was not refunded.
A criminal case has been opened on a charge of fraud. Police are identifying those involved in the deception and conducting the necessary checks.
Law enforcement remind citizens to exercise caution and not to accept "easy" money offers from strangers online. If you receive suspicious messages, it is recommended to contact the police immediately.
Earlier it was reported that "security officers" conned a mother and daughter from Nizhny Novgorod out of 85 million rubles.
It was also reported that scammers have come up with a new scheme to defraud elderly people involving car sales.
