The person responsible for the fatal traffic accident in Dzerzhinsk was sentenced to five years in a penal colony.

      In Dzerzhinsk, the court proceedings in the case of a road traffic accident that killed two people have concluded. According to the city court's press service, the defendant was found guilty and received a custodial sentence.

      According to the case materials, the tragedy occurred on 27 November 2024. The man, while driving a passenger car, grossly violated traffic rules. He greatly exceeded the permitted speed and collided with another vehicle traveling in the adjacent lane.

      The impact propelled the struck vehicle into the oncoming lane, where another collision occurred. As a result of the double crash, the driver and passenger of the vehicle first hit by the offender suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.

      The court established that the defendant’s actions fall under Part 5 of Article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation — violation of traffic rules that by negligence caused the death of two or more persons.

      The court sentenced the man to 5 years’ imprisonment to be served in a colony-settlement. He was also banned from driving vehicles for 2 years and 6 months.

      In addition, the court granted the victims’ civil claims. The defendant is obliged to pay the relatives of the deceased moral damages totaling 6 million rubles.

      The verdict has not yet come into legal force.

      Earlier it was reported that the perpetrator of the fatal road accident on Lenin Avenue would be tried in Nizhny Novgorod.
