Magnetic storms will hit Nizhny Novgorod in early December.

      Residents of Nizhny Novgorod expect a period of increased geomagnetic activity at the beginning of winter. This was reported by the portal my-calend.ru.

      The first minor magnetic storm is forecast as early as 30 November. Its intensity could reach 4 points on the geomagnetic disturbance scale.

      The situation will begin to worsen on the evening of 1 December. According to preliminary data, geomagnetic fluctuations will persist through 4 December inclusive. During this period a series of storms is expected, with strength that may reach 5 points.

      After that, the geomagnetic field will gradually begin to return to normal.

      However, the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences explained that it is difficult to predict the exact development of the situation. Activity on the far side of the Sun currently appears more pronounced than on the side facing Earth.

      The only way to observe solar activity on the invisible side remains the method based on the analysis of plasma waves — helioseismology.

      Doctors advise people who are sensitive to weather changes to be especially attentive to their well‑being during this period. Headaches, spikes in blood pressure, irritability and sleep disturbances are possible.

      To reduce the negative effects of magnetic storms on the body, it is recommended to avoid overexertion, limit stress and maintain a regular rest regimen.

      Earlier it was reported that residents of Nizhny Novgorod will be able to see a meteor shower on 5 December.
