A 34-year-old resident of Kstovo was sentenced to seven months' imprisonment for failing to pay child support for his children for several years, the press service of the Nizhny Novgorod prosecutor's office reported.

The court found that since March 2019 the man had evaded compliance with a decision obliging him to financially support five minor children. During this time the debt to the family grew to more than 2 million rubles.

The man did not present any valid reasons for not paying alimony. Moreover, he had previously been prosecuted under a similar article, yet despite that continued to ignore his parental duties.

The court agreed with the prosecution's position and sentenced the man to seven months' imprisonment. He will serve his sentence in a general-regime penal colony.

It was previously reported that as of May 25, 2025, Russia introduced an electronic registry of alimony debtors, which allows tracking non-payers and encourages them to fulfill their obligations.
