Ahead of the New Year and Christmas holidays, the Migration Department of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod Region reminded residents of the region of the importance of checking their foreign passports in advance.

The department noted that many Nizhny Novgorod residents plan to spend the winter holidays traveling, including abroad. In this regard, citizens are advised to check their foreign passports beforehand.

Particular attention should be paid to the passport’s validity period. It is recommended to submit an application for a new foreign passport no later than six months before the expiration of the old one.

It is also important to ensure there are no errors in the document. Most often there are typos in the full name, place of birth, or indicated gender, as well as missing signatures and stamps. If something is wrong, you should contact the migration office where the passport was issued and submit an application for correction.

In addition, from 20 January 2026 children under 14 will require their own foreign passport for trips to Abkhazia, Belarus, South Ossetia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. This rule will apply regardless of whether the child travels with parents or is accompanied by other persons.

An application for a foreign passport can be submitted via the "Gosuslugi" portal, at an MFC, or in person at a migration office.

Earlier it was reported that the New Year tree had begun to be installed on Minin and Pozharsky Square.
