Nizhny Novgorod Oblast entered the top 10 of the all-Russian "Region-NKO" ranking.

      6 November 2025 17:09 Society. The Public Chamber of the Russian Federation, together with the rating agency RAEX, presented the sixth edition of the third-sector development ranking "Region-NKO".

      The top 10 in NGO development included: Moscow, Vologda Region, Samara Region, Chelyabinsk Region, Nizhny Novgorod Region, Tatarstan, Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug, Leningrad Region, Belgorod Region and Krasnoyarsk Krai. These regions received above-average scores across most of the eight groups of criteria, indicating balanced and sustainable development of the non-profit sector.

      The leaders in individual categories were distributed as follows.

      By sector scale (number of NGOs, amount of funds, volunteer activity) the leaders are Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Tatarstan, Sverdlovsk Region and Moscow Region. In terms of support from the authorities — Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, Leningrad Region and Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug. According to experts — Nenets Autonomous Okrug, Karachay-Cherkessia and Novgorod Region.

      Among the key findings of the study is a significant gap between regions: for a number of indicators, including performance in the #МЫВМЕСТЕ competition, differences reach hundreds and thousands of times.

      The market continues to grow compared to last year: total revenue of all NGOs increased by 5.6% — to 185.4 billion rubles; the number of volunteers grew by 17.2% — to 1.5 million people; support for NGO infrastructure increased by 146.5% — to 14.3 billion rubles.

      In addition, 28 regions already use the ranking data to improve work with NGOs. The main objective of the study is to help regions identify strengths and weaknesses and more effectively support non-profit organizations that address important social problems.
