The Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Gleb Nikitin, reacted sharply to an incident of unauthorized dumping of large-sized waste in the town of Bor. He called such actions a display of irresponsibility and promised that tough measures would be applied to those responsible.
"We are all taught from childhood to treat nature with care, to keep order and cleanliness at home, to be responsible for our actions and to respect others. One would think these simple truths should be followed by everyone. But, to our regret and astonishment, we often notice that mature people who are already raising their own children do not understand elementary things and behave like pigs," the governor wrote on his Telegram channel.
Recall that the incident occurred on the morning of October 26 on Likhacheva Street. Outdoor surveillance cameras recorded two men using a specialized vehicle to unload waste directly onto a waste collection site and then drive away. The perpetrators were quickly identified thanks to the camera footage. The driver admitted his guilt, and the employer issued an official apology and expressed readiness to compensate for the damage. In particular, the company offered help with cleaning up and removing the waste. The offender himself collected the dumped garbage and took it to the landfill.
The regional head noted that such behavior is unacceptable and requires strict measures. Authorities intend to stop such incidents and bring those responsible to administrative account.
"If parents and schools have failed to instill basic civic culture, we will help. Our region and cities are our common home. It should be clean and comfortable. Normal people understand this anyway. And those who don't understand nicely will understand the hard way. We will fine and hold them accountable," he stressed.
Earlier reports said that more than 12,000 tons of waste had been placed outside the municipal solid waste landfill, contaminating 1.6 hectares of land and causing damage of over 400 million rubles in Shatkovsky District.
