      A 42-year-old resident of Dzerzhinsk, who is on maternity leave, lost more than 2.5 million rubles, believing she was investing funds through a trading platform, the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the region reported.

      The woman contacted the duty unit of Police Department No. 1 of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Directorate for the city of Dzerzhinsk. She said that while looking for additional income she joined a remote-work group in a messenger app and filled out a questionnaire.

      After that, she received a call from an unknown person who introduced himself as a company manager. Under the pretext of training and earning from investments, he convinced the complainant to follow unknown links and install applications.

      Acting on the perpetrator's instructions, the woman transferred credit funds and personal savings totaling 2,514,600 rubles.

      A criminal case has been opened on signs of an offense under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The article's sanction provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to 10 years.

      Police officers continue a range of investigative operations aimed at identifying the suspect.
