The former principal of the notorious School No. 117 in Sormovo issued a statement.

      The Sormovsky District Court of Nizhny Novgorod has begun hearing the case of the former director of School No. 117, Tatyana Feoktistova. She is accused of exceeding her official powers after a high-profile incident that occurred at the school this spring.

      Recall that on March 11 an eighth-grader brought a knife to school and during a lesson wounded two classmates as a result of a long-running conflict. A criminal case was opened on the charge of "Attempted murder of two or more persons." The investigation has been completed, and the materials are being considered in court.

      The Sormovsky District prosecutor's office approved the indictment against the director. The investigation found that on the day of the incident the walk-through metal detector gates at the school were not functioning, which allowed the student to bring the weapon in unhindered. Responsibility for disabling the equipment was placed on the director.

      In a conversation with reporters from "Kstati..." (16+), the former director admitted that she had decided to turn off the gates.

      "I did not follow the instruction to keep the gates switched on. I did it not for myself, but for the children — so they would not be late for lessons. Everyone knew that the gate reacts to everything, and the security guard cannot look into a backpack. And everyone knows this well. If you want to bring an axe — you will bring it," she said, adding that she regrets what happened.

      After the incident she was temporarily suspended from work, but later she resigned of her own accord.
