A professional development program for Nizhny Novgorod obstetricians has started in the region.

      A comprehensive continuing education program for obstetrician-gynecologists has started in the Nizhny Novgorod region, aimed at improving their interaction with patients facing reproductive choices.

      The first participants in the training course on October 22 were physicians from Nizhny Novgorod. Specialists from all municipal districts of the region will undergo training subsequently.

      The program was developed by faculty of NNGU and PIMU with the participation of practicing psychologists from the ANO "Institute of Demographic Development." The course is part of the regional project "Emergency Demographic Assistance."

      Training includes both in-person and remote formats. The total duration of the course is 36 academic hours. Doctors will study modern approaches to counseling pregnant women, including those in difficult life circumstances.

      According to the regional Ministry of Health, among the first 50 participants are staff from Maternity Hospitals No. 1 and No. 4, the women's clinics at City Clinical Hospital No. 40 and Maternity Hospital No. 5, City Hospitals No. 21, No. 33 and No. 29, as well as specialists from the Regional Center for Family Health and Reproduction.

      Organizers plan to expand the audience in the future to include mid-level medical staff as well as other healthcare workers involved in supporting women during pregnancy and reproductive decision-making.

      According to Evgeny Zhuravlyov, director of the Institute of Demographic Development, the program will help doctors develop more sensitive and individualized approaches to supporting women faced with the difficult choice between continuing and terminating a pregnancy.

      "Supporting women in vulnerable situations related to reproductive choice is one of the priority areas affecting the region's demographic dynamics. Thanks to the combined efforts of the relevant ministries, the scientific community and public organizations, a new model of care for expectant mothers is being formed," he emphasized.

      It should be recalled that work to improve the demographic situation in the region is being carried out under the national "Family" project. At the initiative of Governor Gleb Nikitin, the period from 2025 to 2030 has been declared the "Five-Year Family" period in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

      It was also reported that a mobile pregnancy guide has started operating in the Nizhny Novgorod region.
