At a meeting of the Supervisory Board of the state fund for supporting participants in the special military operation "Defenders of the Fatherland," a decision was made to implement large-scale changes to the structure of regional units.
The meeting was attended by First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation Sergei Kirienko, Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova, the State Secretary and Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, as well as the fund's chair Anna Tsivileva and other council members.
Sergei Kirienko noted that the fund's work receives high marks from SMO veterans and their families. According to surveys conducted by the "People's Front," the coverage of veterans by social coordinators increased by 11 percentage points to reach 87%. About 80% of survey participants evaluate the coordinators' work positively.
Kirienko also supported the initiative to expand the fund's branch network. In particular, additional offices are planned to be opened in the municipalities of the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics, as well as in Moscow Region. This will make it possible to provide assistance to veterans living in remote settlements.
In addition, mobile offices will be created in Krasnodar Krai and North Ossetia–Alania. They will provide outreach services to special military operation veterans living in Abkhazia and South Ossetia. According to Kirienko, such measures will significantly bring social support closer to those who need it.
Anna Tsivileva, in turn, proposed expanding the list of aid recipients. The fund plans to provide support not only to discharged veterans but also to active-duty servicemembers with disabilities sustained during the special military operation.
They will have access to the same range of assistance, including technical rehabilitation equipment, sports prostheses, hand-controlled vehicles, adaptive clothing, housing, additional support through the Russian Social Fund, as well as provision of medications and medical supplies and devices.
Tsivileva emphasized that the fund's work is founded on the principles of care, respect and fairness. According to her, the organization assists everyone who took up the defense of the Fatherland — from volunteers and contract servicemen to employees of private military companies and members of the people's militias of the Luhansk and Donetsk People's Republics.
In two and a half years of operation, the fund has become a "single window" of comprehensive assistance for veterans and their families. A support ecosystem oriented toward an individualized approach has been built. During this time, more than two million requests have been received, of which over 96% have been resolved positively.
Among the fund's priorities remain regular medical check-ups, assistance with paperwork, help with employment, as well as psychological support for veterans and the families of the deceased.
In particular, the Nizhny Novgorod branch of the fund processed more than 36,000 requests during its operation, 97% of which were successfully resolved. The most frequent requests came from families of missing servicemembers, requests for psychological assistance, applications for social payments and legal support.
Earlier it was reported that the "Defenders of the Fatherland" fund provides support to thousands of Nizhny Novgorod SMO veterans.
Recall that since 2022 more than 38 billion rubles have been allocated in the Nizhny Novgorod region to various support measures for the special military operation.
