
The State Duma revealed details of a bill on punishment for acts of sabotage.

In 2024, 48 people were convicted in Russia for sabotage-related crimes, State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said. By comparison, from 2019 to 2023 only 13 people were convicted under similar articles.
Given the increase in such offenses and the involvement of minors, 419 State Duma deputies proposed a bill to protect the country's interests and enhance its security. It provides for a number of amendments to the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation aimed at countering sabotage and terrorist activities.
“Of particular concern is the involvement of teenagers in sabotage activities, who often do not comprehend their actions. In pursuit of easy money or as a form of play, and also through deception and blackmail, they become participants in crimes,” 360.ru quotes Volodin as saying.
The Speaker of the State Duma emphasized the need to protect children from such actions. In this connection, deputies proposed
The main proposals include:
- introducing the maximum penalty of life imprisonment for involving minors in terrorist or sabotage activities;
- abolishing statutes of limitations for all sabotage crimes;
- restricting the right to parole for such offenses;
- banning suspended sentences for participation in sabotage groups;
- holding organizers of sabotage-terrorist groups accountable for all crimes committed;
- establishing criminal responsibility for sabotage-terrorist crimes that pose a special danger to society from the age of 14.
Volodin assured that the bill will be considered on a priority basis.
As previously reported, a criminal case has been opened in the Nizhny Novgorod region against two minors who attempted to carry out sabotage at railway facilities.
