Repair work on the Myzinsky overpass has resumed in Nizhny Novgorod.

      Major repairs of the overpass of the Myzinsky Bridge are continuing in Nizhny Novgorod, the city administration reported.

      Although work is in full swing, traffic has not been stopped. Workers are currently carrying out the second phase, trying to perform the main tasks at night so as not to inconvenience motorists.

      As Ilya Kurapov, first deputy director of the municipal institution "GUMMiD", said, the repair was deliberately split into three phases so as not to close the road completely. According to him, about 120,000 vehicles pass over the overpass daily.

      The first phase was completed back in the summer: two lanes were completely renewed there — road slabs, supports and everything necessary were replaced. The repairs have now moved to the remaining two lanes. The beams of the span structures have already been installed. The workers completed the job in one night instead of two.

      In the near future the builders will work on waterproofing, drainage and lighting. According to Kurapov, this is not just a cosmetic repair. In essence, a full reconstruction of the overpass is underway. Once all the work is finished it will become stronger and able to cope with modern loads.

      Chief engineer of the contractor Sergey Chernov added that in the second phase they have already dismantled the old beams, repaired the under-truss supports and installed eight new ones. Work is currently underway to lay the roadway, install expansion joints, replace guardrails and reinforce the embankment.

      Recall that road repairs in the Volga capital are being carried out as part of the new national project "Infrastructure for Life", initiated by President Vladimir Putin.

      Earlier it was reported that a state of heightened readiness was introduced at the Myzinsky Bridge due to erosion of the slope.
