Since the beginning of 2025, more than 3,500 patients have already received care at the Center for Men's Health at City Hospital No. 33 in Nizhny Novgorod.

As reported by the regional Ministry of Health, the Center has been operating since 2021 and is part of the compulsory medical insurance system. Its specialists diagnose and treat diseases related to the male reproductive and urinary systems. Consultations are provided by neuro-urologists, urologists, andrologists, endocrinologists, cardiologists and ultrasound diagnostic physicians. Residents of all districts of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast can seek care at the Center.

The hospital's chief physician, Pavel Zubeev, noted that the creation of the Center was a logical step in the development of regional healthcare. He recalled that women's clinics have long existed, whereas until 2021 there was no specialized structure focused on men's health in the region.

According to Zubeev, before the Center opened care for men was provided in a fragmented manner: urologists worked in some places, other specialists in others, but there was no unified approach. The new cluster brought together experts from various fields, which made it possible to build an effective patient routing system — from diagnosis to treatment and subsequent rehabilitation. Hospital No. 33 became the base for this project because it had the necessary resources to carry out all stages of care in one institution.

He also emphasized that the Center's work is directly linked to the goals of the national project "A Longer and More Active Life," which is aimed at improving the population's quality of life.

Since the start of the year the Center's specialists have identified and treated more than 500 cases of prostate pathology, about 350 disorders of spermatogenesis and nearly 300 episodes of urolithiasis. In 2025, the institution for the first time in the region introduced consultations with an andrologist and began using LOD therapy for erectile dysfunction — all procedures are provided under the compulsory medical insurance (OMS).

The head of the Center, neuro-urologist Polina Dorofeychuk, noted that early diagnosis plays a key role in successful treatment. According to her, significant progress in detecting diseases of the genitourinary system became possible thanks to the introduction of a separate reproductive screening program for men starting at age 18.

She explained that when risk factors for prostate cancer are present, men are given a blood test for a specific tumor marker. As part of patient examinations, they are also screened for sexually transmitted infections, since many of these can be asymptomatic for a long time and ultimately lead to infertility.

The doctor reminded that at the first signs of urinary problems it is important not to delay visiting a doctor. Patients should see their local general practitioner, who will carry out an initial assessment and refer them to a specialist. You can obtain a referral to the Center for Men's Health at your polyclinic or make an appointment through City Hospital No. 33's call center at: +7 (831) 267-33-34.

It should be recalled that the national project "A Longer and More Active Life" was launched in 2025 by order of Russian President Vladimir Putin. It is a continuation of the national project "Healthcare" and covers all key areas of the sector's work — from the development of primary medical care to rehabilitation and cancer control.
