Deputy Mark Feldman raised the issue of air quality in Nizhny Novgorod at a meeting of the Duma's ecology commission on October 14, NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" correspondent reports.
According to him, although the issue of the unpleasant odor was not officially on the meeting's agenda, it requires urgent discussion. Feldman reminded that more than 8,000 city residents had signed a petition demanding an investigation into the situation.
The deputy proposed that the relevant commission take the initiative and demand that the administration present a report at the next Duma session.
"So that the administration reports on the causes of what happened, on measures and ways to resolve [the problem], at least in the short term," he said.
It should be noted that Nizhny Novgorod residents regularly complain about a foul smell that periodically blankets some districts of the city. Their reports reached the head of the Investigative Committee, Bastrykin, who demanded briefings on the situation.
Earlier it was reported that the Nizhny Novgorod aeration station again received a warning over the stench.
It also became known that since the beginning of 2025 about 50 administrative protocols have been drawn up against illegal cesspool cleaners, whose unlawful activities are also linked to the appearance of the unpleasant odor.
