In the Nizhny Novgorod region, the number of men who have decided to take responsibility for caring for a child during the first year and a half of the child's life has grown significantly. Currently, more than 3,580 fathers are on parental leave to care for a child, whereas in 2023 there were only 680. This was reported by the press service of the regional branch of the Social Fund.
The largest numbers of men receiving the corresponding benefit live in the Moskovsky, Kanavinsky and Kstovsky districts of Nizhny Novgorod, as well as in Dzerzhinsk and Sarov.
The agency reminded that the monthly childcare benefit for children up to one and a half years can be received not only by the mother but also by the father, grandmother, grandfather or another working relative who is actually caring for the baby. Which family member takes the leave is decided by the family itself.
The payment amounts to 40% of average earnings. From 1 February 2025 the minimum benefit amount is set at 10,103.83 rubles, the maximum — 68,995.48 rubles.
At the same time, a father can be on leave and simultaneously work full-time — the right to the benefit remains. To apply, a statement must be submitted to the employer, who transfers the data to the Social Fund of Russia. It is the Social Fund that assigns and pays the benefit.
The initial payment is made within 10 working days after receiving the information from the employer. Afterwards, the money is paid on the 8th day of each month for the previous month.
The period of childcare leave is included in the insurance employment record and affects the accrual of pension coefficients.
